A 25-year-man from Whitby died Tuesday after a shooting inside a building in Scarborough.

Just after 3 p.m., police tweeted that they were responding to the Lawrence Avenue East and Andover Crescent area after reports of multiple shots fired.

A male was seen running from the scene and police say they discovered bullet holes in the wall of the building.

Police then located a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the stairwell of the building. He was found without vital signs and was pronounced dead on the scene. He has since been identified as Dean Howlett.

Police say the suspect is a black male, wearing a black toque and black jacket with black track pants with a white stripe. He was last seen running northbound away from the building.

This is the city’s seventh homicide of the year.
