Serious crash closes Hwy. 400 northbound at Teston Road

By News Staff

A serious crash has caused the closure of the northbound Highway 400 at Teston Road.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said at least three vehicles are involved in the collision.

One of the vehicles, an SUV, was stopped either on the left shoulder or in the left lane of traffic prior to the collision.

Schmidt said the vehicle was struck multiple times by at least two other vehicles – a truck and a second vehicle remained on scene. Other vehicles may have been involved but fled the area.

The 33-year-old driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with life-threatening-injuries.

Police are not sure exactly how the crash happened or why the SUV was stopped.

“We have our collision reconstruction team on scene right now, going through the evidence, trying to determine where the collisions took place,” Schmidt explained.

There has been no word on if speed or weather were a factor in the crash. Schmidt said the left lane was covered in snow but the rest of the highway seemed clear at the time.

Police continue to investigate.

The northbound 400 has been closed between Teston and King Road. Southbound lanes are open but traffic is starting to slow down near the crash scene.
