One person is dead after a vehicle hit a railway overpass in Markham on Monday evening.
Crews responded to a 9-1-1 call for a collision on the Ninth Line between Fieldside Street and Steels Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
The vehicle involved was a blue Ford Fusion and caught fire following the crash, causing extensive damage. One person, believed to be in the driver’s seat, died at the scene.
Emergency crews were working to determine is anyone else was in the vehicle, but police later said they believe the driver was the only occupant.
His identity has not been confirmed.
It is unclear what caused the crash at this time and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Ninth line was closed for several hours from Steels to Fieldside for the investigation but has since reopened.
