A Brampton man has been identified as the victim in a fatal downtown nightclub shooting.

Emergency crews were called to Queen Street East, just east of Parliament Street, around 2 a.m. Friday, for multiple reports of gunshots.

Police said the victim was shot while standing in a doorway in front of a nightclub in the area.

“Our officers were in the area and arrived here very quickly,” Toronto police Insp. Jim Gotell explained.

“We located one male who had been shot several times in a doorway on Queen Street.”

The victim suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as Jaunoi Christian, 24, of Brampton. A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Saturday.

Police are looking for a man seen running from the scene.

He is described as black, 6 feet tall in his mid 30s, with a medium build. He was wearing a blue and white toque, dark-coloured jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting is asked to contact police
