Sinkhole swallows up vehicle near King and Church

By News Staff

The driver of a Range Rover was not injured but his vehicle was damaged after a large sinkhole opened in downtown Toronto.

Police said the driver was travelling on Court Street near King and Church streets just after midnight Monday, when the vehicle got stuck in the sinkhole.

A passerby was able to help the driver get out of his vehicle around 3 a.m.

There were concerns the sinkhole, which measures 10 feet six inches wide, could collapse further.

The Range Rover has since been removed and the lane has been blocked off while crews continue to assess the situation.
