Man charged after car plows into pole, killing driver

By News Staff

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal collision last weekend — the second of the year.

Toronto police responded to reports that a car had collided with a telephone pole at McCowan and Ellesmere roads around 10:15 p.m on Saturday.

Witnesses told police they saw the two vehicles “travelling at high rates of speed” before the crash and police said they were investigating if street racing was a factor.

In a release on Thursday, police said a 44-year-old man was travelling south in a Honda Civic in the passing lane on McCowan north of Brimorton Drive, while a 32-year-old man was driving a Honda Accord south in the curb lane.

The driver of the Civic changed lanes and crashed into the Accord, causing both vehicles to lose control. The Civic mounted the curb and struck a telephone pole.

The driver of the Civic was trapped in the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver remained on the scene to speak to officers.

On Thursday, police arrested the second driver. Cory Erza Seale, of Toronto, is charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death.

He was scheduled to appear in court on the same day.
