15-year-old driver charged in crash on Hwy. 410

A 15-year-old is facing charges after a single-vehicle crash that injured two people in Brampton.

The crash happened on Highway 410 near Derry Road around 1 a.m. Thursday.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then hit a concrete wall.

The driver fled the scene of the crash but was picked up a short time later by police.

A 16-year-old passenger was rushed to hospital with life-altering back injuries.

An 18-year-old passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Schmidt said the teenage driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm as well as failure to remain at the scene of a collision.

The 18-year-old was also taken into custody and is being held on bail on existing robbery charges.

There’s no word what led to the crash.

Northbound 410 was closed from Derry to Steeles Avenue for most of the overnight while police investigated.

The section of highway reopened around 5:30 a.m.
