Police investigate online threat against North York school

By News staff

Toronto police are investigating an online threat at a school in North York.

Police said the threat against John Polanyi Collegiate Institute on Lawrence Avenue West near Allen Road was made on Friday.

The school is open on Monday but there will be added security from the Toronto District School Board and police.

The board sent a letter to parents informing them of the situation, saying the threat was made “by an anonymous person using social media.”

“Police were immediately contacted and we have been in touch with them earlier today as well. They are investigating the source of the threat. Officers shared that they believe our school is safe,” the letter went on to state.

The board said that the online comment “may be nothing more than an offhand remark, we must take it seriously.”
