Police have released a photo of a suspect vehicle as well as more information about a shootout near Greenwood Avenue and Gerrard Street East that left one man in critical condition on Friday.

Officers responded to a call for a shooting in the Walpole and Greenwood Avenue area around 2:20 a.m.

Police initially said a man was in his car at Glenside Avenue when he was shot in the head. At the time police said it was unclear if he was involved in the shooting or just sitting in his car.

Following an investigation, police said in a release on Saturday that two vehicles were parked in the area, each with “a number of occupants” inside.

An unknown male suspect reportedly approached the vehicles on foot and began shooting at both of them.

The occupants in the two vehicles began shooting back at the male suspect. The male fled on foot and was followed by the two vehicles.

The exchange of gunfire between the vehicles and the male on foot continued as he ran onto Walpole Avenue.

During the shootout, a male victim in one of the vehicles was shot. He made his way to hospital and was treated for his injuries. He remains in life-threatening condition following surgery.

The male suspect on foot did not appear to be injured.

Police found bullet holes in at least four other cars in the area. One man said his roommate’s car had seven bullet holes in it.

One of the vehicles involved is believed to be a red Nissan Altima and police have released a security camera image of the car.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
