A 59-year-old Port Colborne man is facing eight charges in connection with several historical sexual assaults against children.

York Regional Police say they began an investigation after being contacted by an adult victim on Dec. 14 regarding an incident that occurred when he was a young child. The incidents allegedly occurred when the accused lived in Markham from 1991 to 2015. During that time, police say he worked as a pastor at a church in North York and managed a hockey team in Markham. There was also a home daycare operating out of the home he was living in at the time.

During the course of the investigation, police also became aware of additional incidents involving the accused and another victim which had been reported to Niagara Regional Police in the Port Colborne area in 2017.

Richard Rose has been charged with four counts of sexual assault and four counts of sexual interference involving someone under the age of 16.

Police say Rose has ties to the Montreal area and has also worked as a pastor in Rimbey, Alberta and in Nova Scotia.

Rose is scheduled to make a court appearance in the new year.
