Man in hospital after shooting, crash on Ellesmere near Morningside

A man is in hospital after a gunshot was fired at a car in the city’s east end.

Emergency crews were called to Ellesmere Road near Morningside Avenue around midnight.

Witnesses told police they heard about 10 shots fired in the area.

Police said the victim was in a vehicle that crashed into a guardrail and then hit a hydro pole. He is not believed to be the driver.

Reports from the scene indicate a female may have fled the scene of the incident.

Police said a passerby came upon the crash site shortly after it happened and helped the victim to the hospital.

Paramedics said the victim was shot in the leg but his injuries are not life-threatening.

So far, no arrests have been made and no suspect description has been released.
