The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a woman fell to her death from a downtown apartment.

The SIU says police received a 911 call about a woman in distress around 6 p.m. on Saturday night. They arrived at a building in the area of Shuter Street and Dalhousie Street.

Police entered a 19th floor apartment and found a woman on the balcony. She then fell from the balcony, according to the SIU.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman’s name has not been released.

Four SIU investigators have been assigned to the case and are asking anyone with any information or who might have video related to the incident to contact them.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
