Man arrested after fatal hit-and-run on St. Clair

Police have arrested a 56-year-old Toronto man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Scarborough on Wednesday.

It happened on St. Clair Avenue East at Jeanette Street, near Midland Avenue, around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

A 61-year-old man was crossing St. Clair when he was hit by a minivan going east.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.

The driver didn’t remain at the scene.

On Friday, police arrested Punitharajah Singarajah and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and leaving the scene of accident causing death.

They also seized a Dodge Caravan.

Singarajah is due in court on Saturday morning.
