Toronto police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a 79-year-old man was struck by an SUV near the Agincourt Mall.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Sheppard Avenue East and Birchmount Road just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police said the man was crossing Sheppard from the north side to the south when he was hit by, what’s believed to be, a dark-coloured SUV going eastbound.

He remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver fled the scene. Police believe the driver knew they had struck someone.
