Arrest made in connection with Instagram video of person atop GO train

A 19-year-old Mississauga man is under arrest after a video was posted on Instagram seemingly showing a person sitting atop a GO train.

The video, which police say was recorded in June 2017, was shared last week by Instagram account @6ixbuzztv with the caption “That GO train s*** too damn expensive.”

It shows a young person riding on top of a moving GO train that, according to police, was heading westbound along the Lakeshore West train line.

On Monday, investigators from Metrolinx, with the assistance of Peel police, arrested and charged a suspect under the Railway Safety Act.

Police said that since the suspect would have been under age at the time the video was recorded, his identity cannot be released.

This is not the first time police and transit officials have had to deal with this type of incident.

In February, a 20-year-old York University student pulled a similar stunt and posted a video of himself hitching a ride on the back of a TTC subway on Instagram.

The unidentified man said he was inspired by a video he saw of people performing a similar stunt on the New York subway, but also admitted it was very reckless.

“I don’t want people seeing the video and thinking it’s OK to do what I did,” he told CityNews at the time. “It was a drunken moment.”

The TTC called it the “dumbest” and most dangerous stunt ever and threatened to press charges.
