Hamilton’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting with connections to organized crime at a home in Ancaster.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Thursday on Sunflower Crescent, near Highway 403 and Mohawk Road.

Police said the victim, 50-year-old Albert Iavarone, was pronounced dead at the scene.

They say the suspect hid in the bushes for an extended period of time before approaching the victim and shooting at him as he was returning home.

Neighbours reported hearing several gunshots and then saw a vehicle speeding away from the scene.

The Hamilton police department confirmed the victim had connections with ” traditional organized crime”, although he had no criminal record.

Police said this was a targeted shooting and there is no danger to the public.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive of the shooting. They also do not have description of the suspect at this time, but say they fled in a silver car.

Sunflower Crescent was closed for the investigation as police and the K-9 unit continue to investigate.
