Man shot dead in car near Jane and Weston

A 32-year-old man is dead after he was shot in Toronto’s west end Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 10 a.m. on Weston Road, near Jane Street.

Police said the man was driving north on Weston, when it appears shots were fired from an SUV heading in the opposite direction.

When officers arrived, they found the man dead. A passenger was also in the car at the time but was not injured.

“It’s very brazen and quite disturbing at this time of day,” said Det.-Sgt. Mike Patterson.

“Unfortunately, there seems to be no rhyme or reason at this time. People with guns are out and about at all times of the day.”

Area resident Arthur Poole, who has lived in the neighbourhood for about 48 years, said he arrived at the scene before police.

“I was just outside, having a smoke outside my house, and heard three shots go off,” he said.

“I heard the roofers out here this morning so I thought something was wrong with their equipment. So I wandered up here and wandered into this.”

Poole said he’s not worried about his personal safety although he has been hearing about incidents of gun violence in the area.

“There’s a little more shootings going on,” he said. “Every now and then you hear of a drive-by shooting happening in the neighbourhood.”

Police are looking for a newer-model, light blue SUV which was last seen going north on Weston.

They are asking for witnesses to come forward.
