York Regional Police responded to a call for a collision involving four vehicles around 7:15 a.m. on Davis Drive between Jane and Keele streets.

One of the children and four adults were in serious or critical condition following the collision.

Investigators initially said seven people were injured in the crash, but later adjusted the number to eight after learning that another man was in hospital.

The major collision unit has now taken over the investigation.
