Man turns himself in to police after stabbing at shelter

A man in his 50s is in hospital after a stabbing at one of the city’s downtown shelters.

Police first responded to a call at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday in the Sherbourne Street and Queen Street East area where a fight had broken out between two people.

Officials said a man in his 30s fled the scene but later walked to the police station and turned himself in. He was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The victim suffered a serious stab wound to the leg. Police say his condition has improved.

Police said the suspect is facing a number of charges including aggravated assault.
