Police identify man fatally stabbed at Rexdale plaza

Toronto police have identified a man who was fatally stabbed at a Rexdale plaza over the weekend.

Officers were called about an assault at a plaza at Martin Grove Road and John Garland Boulevard, south of Finch Avenue West, around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition with multiple stab wounds where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Winston Freckleton of Toronto.

A post-mortem confirmed that Freckleton died of stab wounds.

Joseph Whittick, 30, of Toronto, was arrested a short time after the stabbing took place. Police said he has been charged with first-degree murder.
