Canada rockers Yukon Blonde have ‘Critical Hit’ on their hands

By Lindsay Dunn

Juno Award nominees Yukon blondes new album ‘Critical Hit’ is out Friday. The album has a number one song off the album ‘Love The Way You Are’, but the chart-topping melodies came at a price. A bit of a heartache for frontman Jeffrey Innes.

“He went through meeting, falling in love, moving to Spain, being a Casanova to that relationship falling apart,” Yukon Blonde’s James Younger told CityNews. “It all happened during the making of this album. We can laugh about it now because it makes some damn good music.”

This is the groups fourth full length LP and follows their critically acclaimed release ‘On Blonde’. The group has seen a lot of success around the world but notice Toronto has a soft spot for the west-coasters.

“It’s really expensive in Vancouver to have a rehearsal space which any band would need. There are venues closing down all the time so it’s driven underground in that sense. We do better here, I think it’s kind of our second home really.”

The group who is known for putting on phenomenal live show have managed to capture that energy in their latest release. They are one of Canada’s most charming groups and we learned a fun fact about them in our interview: When traveling from show to show, the group will sing from time to time acapella versions of Backstreet Boy songs.
