1 man injured in Polson Pier shooting

A man has been released from hospital after gunshots rang out at Polson Pier on Saturday night.

Police responded to a call for the sound of gunshots in a parking lot in the area at around 9 p.m.

Staff Sgt. Stefan Prentice said police have determined there were at least two people involved in an exchange of gunfire.

Officers found shell casings in the area and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

On Sunday, Const. David Hopkinson added that the victim was found fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

“The car was being driven erratically, so the officers attempted to pull it over,” says Hopkinson. “When they did, they found a man behind the wheel of the car suffering gunshot wounds.”

He added that the victim’s injuries were life-threatening at the time and the officers began performing first-aid. Thereafter they drove him to hospital in their police cruiser as it would have taken a “fair amount of time” for an ambulance to arrive.

Police said the bullet went through the victim’s shoulder.

He received treatment at the hospital and was stabilized. He was released a few hours later and is recovering.

There is still no word on a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
