Delays on Line 1 due to shortage of trains after switch issue

TTC riders encountered delays on Line 1 during the Friday morning commute because of a shortage of trains.

The shortage of trains was caused by a switch issue at Wilson Yard earlier in the morning, and trains couldn’t get out.

The TTC rerouted trains from Line 2, but there were still fewer trains on Line 1, so they were expected to be very full.

“Signal issues inside Wilson Yard earlier prevented a normal start to the morning in getting trains on the line. It’s been resolved, but with fewer trains on Line 1 than normal right now, expect longer wait times. Six trains from Line 2 helping supplement,” TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said in a tweet.

As a result, longer than normal wait times were also expected on Line 2.

Toronto police tweeted an advisory, saying that there may be larger than normal crowds at Yonge-Bloor and St. George stations.

Due to the subway delays, riders were able to use the downtown express routes without paying any extra fare and their regular TTC fares on GO Transit in Toronto.

Just before 10 a.m. the TTC tweeted that service are slowly returning to normal, but that customers may still experience “slightly longer than normal wait times.”
