Toronto councillor Shelley Carroll resigning to run for provincial Liberals

Thursday marks Shelley Carroll’s last day at Toronto City Hall.
The long-time city councillor for Ward 33 Don Valley East announced on Twitter that she’s stepping down as of 5 p.m. to focus on provincial politics.
Carroll is running for the Liberals in Don Valley North in the upcoming provincial election. She was appointed by Premier Kathleen Wynne.
“I am delighted to have her experience and expertise on our team,” Wynne said after appointing Carroll. “She’s the kind of person we need at Queen’s Park.”
Carroll was first elected as a school trustee in Don Valley East in 2000. She was then elected to city council in 2003 and has held the same seat every since, being re-elected in 2006, 2010, and 2014.
“I thank the Toronto Public Service, the @Ward33Team, the 3 Mayors & so many Councillors that I served alongside & most of all, Ward 33 constituents for the honour of serving!” she wrote on Twitter.
