Woman struck by transport truck on Hwy. 401

All westbound express lanes of Highway 401 have reopened from Brimley Road to Highway 404 after a woman was struck and killed by a transport truck early Thursday morning.

OPP were called to the scene around 4:30 a.m.

“At this point a female pedestrian was observed prior to this collision, in the area,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

“The female was struck by a transport truck. The truck remains on scene.”

Paramedics said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

There has been no word on why the 49-year-old woman was walking on the highway but police say foul play is not suspected.

The express lanes were closed for about four hours while police investigated. They reopened just before 8:30 a.m.

CORRECTION: This is a corrected story. An original version incorrectly stated the highway was closed at Markham Road
