Vigil Sunday to mourn victims of alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur

Mayor John Tory is expected to join a downtown Toronto community Sunday evening to mourn the deaths of several men in the LGBTQ community at the hands of an alleged serial killer.

Bruce McArthur, a 66-year-old self-employed landscaper, has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of five men, and police have said they believe there are more victims.

Those known so far are Selim Esen, 44, Andrew Kinsman, 49, Majeed Kayhan, 58, Soroush Mahmudi, 50 as well as Dean Lisowick, who was either 43 or 44 when he died.

The revelations came after a months-long search by police for Esen and Kinsman, as well as other men from Toronto’s LGBTQ community who had been missing for years.

A candlelight vigil will be held at the Metropolitan Community Church, which was an early adopter of same-sex marriage ceremonies.

“This will be a time for contemplation, community prayer and support,” read a release from the church. “All who have been impacted in any way by this ongoing tragedy are welcome.”
