Police say a live-in caregiver is facing charges after allegedly taking cash and property from her elderly clients.

Halton regional police say the alleged thefts occurred in Burlington between December 2017 and Jan. 4.

Investigators say some of the property has been recovered.

Bibiana Peter, 55, from Saint Lucia is charged with theft over $5,000, three counts of theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and uttering threats.

Police say people should conduct a thorough screening process when hiring live-in caregivers.
