Man charged after allegedly setting apartment door, car on fire

A 31-year-old has been charged after a car and apartment fire in Etobicoke.

It happened just after midnight on Wednesday at a building on Arbordell Road near Kipling Avenue.

Police said the man poured some sort of accelerant onto a neighbour’s apartment door and lit it on fire. He allegedly then went outside and lit a car on fire.

Police said a woman and a two-year-old baby were inside the apartment at the time of the fire. Neither of them were injured.

The vehicle also belonged to the woman.

To ensure the safety of the residents, the building was evacuated and a TTC bus was brought in to provide shelter.

Paramedics assessed one person and one firefighter at the scene but they were not taken to hospital.

The suspect has been charged with arson causing danger. Police said he will be going to the court that handles mental health issues.
