New poll finds Ontario Liberals and Conservatives in dead heat

By News Staff

The Ontario Liberals and Conservatives are in a virtual tie among support according to the latest Campaign Research poll.

The research and marketing firm surveyed 1,495 Ontario voters between December 4 and 6 and found support for the Liberals is at 35 per cent, an increase of three per cent since last month while the Conservatives slipped down to 34 per cent.

The New Democrats continue to trail in third place with 22 per cent support.

Support for the Liberals continues to be strong in Toronto while the Conservatives enjoy their strongest support from the GTA.

There could be cause for concern for the Conservatives as the survey was conducted in the wake of the party’s much talked about policy convention in Toronto in which leader Patrick Brown signed “The People’s Guarantee.” The party’s 2018 election platform, presented in a 78-page glossy magazine, promised tax cuts for the middle class, childcare refunds and a cut in hydro bills.

Ahead of that, the governing Liberals presented their fall economic statement, which promised to slash small business taxes and balanced budgets in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

“So far, the hype and coverage of the PC Party Convention, did little to engender the PC Party and it’s leader, Patrick Brown, among the electorate,” said Eli Yufest, CEO of Campaign Research.

The poll has a margin of error of plus/minus 2.5 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
