9-1-1 not so much: Forgetful homeowner prompts panic

This one’s got it all – a locked up home, a scared neighbour, a body wrapped in plastic, a panicked 9-1-1 call and the inevitable, unexpected twist!

Except this isn’t your average thriller – it’s an actual call York regional police attended bright and early on Friday morning.

At around 9 a.m. police responded to a call for unknown trouble in the Richmond Hill area.

A man made a seemingly grizzly discovery in his neighbour’s home and it wasn’t just the abandoned, dying tomato plant. He immediately informed the authorities – a move police say was the right call.

While away from their home, the man’s neighbours had asked him to keep an eye on their property. As he was conducting a walkabout around the home, the man spotted what looked like a human body wrapped entirely in plastic.

While the authorities were on their way, the homeowners called their now terrified neighbour to say — and you can see where we’re going with this already — it’s a Halloween prop they didn’t have time to put away before they left. What a twist!

Pro tip from YRP: “When departing for vacation right after Halloween and have a friend checking on your house, please give them a heads up that you didn’t get a chance to put away all of the Halloween props. This view through a window prompted a well-deserved call to 9-1-1.”
