Byford takes on the Big Apple: how the TTC compares to the MTA

His bags are packed and he’s ready to go – TTC CEO Andy Byford announced his resignation in a press conference on Tuesday morning.

Byford is heading to the bright lights of New York City, saying he was offered and has accepted the post of President and CEO of the massive transit system.

Earlier this year the American Public Transportation Association awarded the TTC the honour of Outstanding Transit System of the Year – an award many Torontonians might scoff at given the scale of the TTC compared with other major metropolitan centres – especially Byford’s new home, New York City.

So how does Byford’s ex-employer stack up against his new one? A quick comparison of the subway maps of the two cities should give you a fair idea of what he signed up for.
