Hundreds of patients evacuated in Hamilton hospital fire

Hundreds of patients were evacuated after a fire broke out at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton on Sunday morning.

Hamilton Fire says they responded to a call at around 9:15 a.m. for a fire that began in a storage building attached to the hospital.

Heavy smoke migrated to occupied areas of the hospital, triggering the evacuation. Several paramedic vehicles and city buses were on scene to facilitate moving and temporarily accommodating patients.

Paramedics from Hamilton and Brantford as well as emergency personnel from Toronto assessed patients for possible smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation. No injuries were reported.
