Mother of 5 identified as victim in Hamilton ‘targeted’ shooting

Hamilton police have identified the woman killed in what they’re calling a targeted shooting.

Emergency crews were called to an apartment building on Barton Street East, near Lotteridge Street, around 3:40 a.m. on Monday where they found the victim without vital signs, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said she was rushed to hospital where she later died.

The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Nicole Dragasic of Hamilton.

A GoFundMe page set up by the victim’s sister-in-law describes Dragasic as a loving mother of five.

According to police, two males, wearing dark clothing, approached the apartment and there was some kind of interaction between the suspects and the victim before shots rang out. Police said there may have been a third person involved but they are unsure if it is another suspect or a witness to the crime.

Dragasic’s boyfriend was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. Police said he is cooperating with the investigation.

Police have not released a possible motive for the crime.

Dragasic is the city’s seventh homicide of the year.
