Woman, 5-year-old child struck and killed in Scarborough

Police are searching for the driver of a car after a mother and child were struck and killed in Scarborough on Wednesday night.
Police say the incident occurred near the intersection of Warden Avenue and Continental Place, just north of Ellesmere Road, around 9:30 p.m.
A family of four were crossing Warden Avenue when the 33-year-old woman and her five-year-old child were struck by a car travelling northbound.
“The family left the restaurant. The adults were carrying their two children. They were crossing the street from the west side to the east side and they were not crossing within a designated crossing area or signalized intersection,” Sgt. Carm Zambri explained.
Police said the force of the impact threw the mother and child into the path of a southbound vehicle, where they were struck again.
That vehicle, believed to be a 2006 to 2011 Honda Civic or Acura EL, dark in colour, did not remain at the scene.
Police are asking the driver to come forward.
“We are asking for the public’s assistance in potentially identifying the vehicle and the driver and we are asking the driver of that vehicle to call Toronto police, specifically traffic services,” Sgt. Zambri said.
Police said there might be some damage to the right, front wheel well of the car.
