Peel police officer charged with impaired driving while off-duty

An off-duty Peel police officer is facing alcohol-related charges after he allegedly crashed his car and fled the scene.

It’s alleged that around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Const. Wayne Parkins was driving in the area of Courtney Park Drive and Hurontario Street in Mississauga when his vehicle struck a light standard. According to police, the 14-year veteran of the service fled the area before investigators arrived.

He was located a short time later and arrested.

Const. Parkins was charged with impaired driving, excess blood alcohol, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

He has been suspended with pay as per the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act.

The investigation is ongoing.
