Homicide detectives in Barrie are investigating after the body of an infant was found near Barrie.

On Wednesday, police said a doctor’s office got a call from a woman saying she had given birth out of the hospital. Police were then contacted.

Investigators with the South Simcoe Police Service located the 42-year-old woman at a residence on McCormick Drive in Innisfil. They also found the male infant’s body.

Police believe the infant died on July 30. It’s not yet known what led to his death.

The woman has been charged with neglecting to obtain assistance in child birth and concealing the body of a child.

She was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
