1 man dead after house fire in Junction Triangle

By News Staff

A 62-year-old man is dead after a fire in the Junction Triangle area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Toronto Fire Capt. David Eckerman says they were called to a fire in a bedroom on the top floor of a three-storey home on Sarnia Avenue at about 3:30 a.m.

There were reportedly three residents in the home. Two people were able to escape the burning residence by themselves and were not hurt.

After searching the premises, firefighters found the third resident in critical condition on the second floor of the house.

Eckerman says the man was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

The fire was contained within 20 minutes and no other injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate.

It is unclear what caused the fire at this time.
