Hamilton man accused of posting nude photos of woman he met online

A 25-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to send nude images of a woman to her friends and family.
It’s alleged that in March a woman got into an online relationship with a man who was using an assumed name of “Tim James.”
According to the victim, during the course of their relationship she sent the man nude photographs of herself upon his request. She said that over time his requests escalated into demands for her to perform a variety of sexual acts in front of her computer web cam.
When she expressed her discomfort with the demands, the man allegedly threatened to share the previously obtained nude images with her family and friends of the woman, so she complied.
It’s alleged that the demands for sexual acts became more extreme. The woman then reported the incident to police.
On Friday evening, members of the 11 Division Major Crime Unit executed two search warrants at residences in Oakville and Hamilton.
Brandin Basso was arrested and charged with extortion and publishing intimate images without consent.
Police say Basso used a variety of aliases when speaking to the victim, and also used a computer-generated phone number (647-699-6831) to send text messages to the victim.
