2 men dead at Scarborough birthday shooting

By News Staff

Two men are dead and a woman is in hospital with serious injuries after shooting at a birthday party in Scarborough.

The shooting happened at a home on Gennela Square, near Morningside and Sheppard avenues, around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

The party was to celebrate the woman who was later shot, Toronto police Det. Rob North said at a news conference hours after the shooting. She is often at the home, North said, but doesn’t live there.

Rinaldo Cole, 33, and Dwayne Campbell, 30, were killed. They were found shot in the backyard and pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s name has not been released. All three of the victims knew each other, and were known to police, but police wouldn’t say how.

There were more than 200 people in the area for the party at the time, police said, adding it’s fortunate that no one else was hurt.

There’s no word yet on suspects, or what prompted the shooting.

Any witnesses are asked to come forward.
