Man airlifted to hospital after Hwy. 407 crash

By News Staff

A man was airlifted to hospital after a crash on Highway 407.

Police say around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday a transport truck and a Volkswagen collided in the eastbound lanes, east of Highway 401 in Milton.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the crash caused a fire in the transport truck. The fire was quickly contained and it’s believed the truck didn’t contain any toxic goods.

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway were closed so an Ornge air ambulance could transport the victim to hospital in critical condition.

Schmidt said the man’s condition is now considered non-life-threatening.

The westbound lanes have reopened.

Schmidt said the eastbound lanes are expected to be opened around 8 p.m.

Correction: This story previously stated the eastbound lanes had reopened.
