A Toronto man wanted by police for the first-degree murder of 27-year-old Julian Weekes has been arrested in Aruba.

According to police, the shooting happened at around 2 a.m. on April 2 outside the Fuse Bar at 366 Queen St. E.

Weekes was found several blocks away, lying in the parking lot of a Shell gas station near Parliament and Richmond streets suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Weekes had been attending a memorial celebration for his friend near Regent Park just before the shooting.

The suspect, Michael Teddy Gibson, 29, had last been seen in the country three days after the shooting and police believed he had fled the country.

At the end of April, Gibson was arrested in Aruba by Aruban police. He is currently being investigated for criminal offences in Aruba.

Police said Weekes and Gibson knew each other prior to the shooting but would not elaborate on a motive for the shooting.
