A man was pepper-strayed by police after he allegedly tried to resist being arrested on Highway 401 in the city’s east end.

It happened on the eastbound express ramp to northbound Kennedy Road around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Toronto police said they pulled over a suspected impaired driver and attempted to take him into custody, but he tried to fight off police.

He had to be pepper-sprayed and is being treated in hospital.

The ramp was closed as police investigated but it has since opened.
