Environment Canada has confirmed a small tornado touched down near the town of Clifford, Ont. during Wednesday’s severe weather event.

The weather office says an EF1 tornado, approximately 200 metres wide, with winds gusting up to 170 km/h was responsible for damage seven kilometres northeast of the town.

Three bolted-down grain bins were ripped off their cement base and flung 200 metres away while the corner of a barn was severely damaged in the storm. A number of mature trees were also snapped off or blown over.

Environment Canada also confirmed that the damage to two partially constructed new homes in Brampton was the result of a downburst.
