Police hope person of interest can help Newmarket sex assault case

York regional police continue to investigate five sexual assaults that happened near Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket since August.

Police have released a second surveillance video and are hoping someone recognizes the person of interest.

“We know they were in the area at the time, and we would basically want to speak to them and have a conversation and determine what were you [doing] in the area. Did you see, did you hear anything,” Const. Laura Nicolle told 680 NEWS.

Since Aug. 18, there have been five similar sexual assaults near Upper Canada Mall, the latest one happened this past Tuesday.

Police say no tip is too small.

“We’ve received tips through a number of different means – people taking pictures, people calling in saying I think I know who this person is. It just helps us to narrow it down,” Nicolle said.

The suspect is described as male, white, 20 to 25 years old, around five-feet five-inches tall, 125 to 130 pounds and with a thin build. At the time, he was wearing a hoodie with the hood up and pants.
