Toronto police have arrested two people in connection with a stabbing at Central Technical School on the first day of class.
Last Tuesday, a 19-year old student was stabbed outside the school near Bathurst and Harbord streets. He suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy turned themselves in at 14 Division on Wednesday morning. Police said they were in touch with the suspects’ lawyers, which led to the arrest.
Det. Jessica McInnes said it was only a matter of time before they were caught.
“Both are known to us and they were persons of interest,” she said.
They face a string of charges, including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
According to police, the attack happened in a laneway on school property and officers recovered two knives at the scene.
At the time, the victim was trying to help two other students who were being robbed of the cellphones.
“When the victim intervened, he was overpowered and was subsequently stabbed twice,” McInnes said.
Police released security camera images of three suspects last week. Investigators said they expect a third arrest soon, possibly as early as Thursday.
