Yorkville’s Lettieri cafe to close Friday after 2 decades

A place where people in Yorkville have been getting caffeine boosts for nearly 20 years is closing.

Lettieri Espresso Bar and Café, located at Bellair and Cumberland streets across the street from Sassafraz, will shut down on Friday to make way for the Minto Yorkville Park condo project.

The coffee shop, which opened on Boxing Day in 1996 at that location, was a prime people watching place and a celebrity favourite during the Toronto International Film Festival.

“It’s definitely a sad day for me and for the area,” said John Lettieri, the cafe’s president and founder, in a release.

“With the changing times and the condo world expanding, the time came to close the doors.”

Lettieri also thanked their customers and Torontonians, saying “you were great to us.”

The company said it has served over five-million espressos over the two decades.

Lettieri Cafés started in 1986 and has expanded to 15 locations in the GTA.
