Toronto Hydro to help New Hampshire restore power after snow storm

Toronto Hydro is sending crews to New Hampshire to help get the power back on after a pre-Thanksgiving snow storm.

As of Thursday morning, around 178,000 customers in the New England area don’t have power after heavy snow fell on Wednesday and Thursday.

Toronto Hydro is sending about 25 staff to New Hampshire, including overhead power line workers. They left early Friday morning.

New England’s North East Utilities will then deploy staff to areas most in need.

The areas hardest hit by the storm include Nashua and Manchester.

The utility said it’s happy to help, since American power utility workers came to Toronto’s aid after the December 2013 ice storm.

“We will never forget the people who gave up their holidays, leaving family and friends to come to our aid,” Toronto Hydro CEO Anthony Haines said in a release.

“It’s our turn now to help others in need — it’s the least we can do.”

Toronto Hydro is a member of the North Atlantic Mutual Assistance Group, which requested help from member utilities to deal with the storm.
