Dedicated bus corridor opens in Mississauga

Mississauga is rolling out Phase 1 of its half-a-billion transit plan on Monday with the opening of its new dedicated bus corridor.

MiWay bus routes 21, 107 and 109 routes will be the first to travel on the dedicated east-west corridor, which includes four new stations — Central Parkway, Cawthra, Tomken and Dixie — from the city centre to Dixie station.

Construction of all 12 new stations is slated to be completed by 2017, with transit eventually running from Winston Churchill Boulevard to Renforth Avenue.

Officials estimate riders will save up to 18 minutes off the trip from one end to the other.

GO Transit buses will also travel on the new 18 kilometre corridor.

The next series of stations are expected to open in 2016.

The transit expansion will eventually include a light rail transit route, expected to run north-south on Hurontario from Brampton to Port Credit.
