Man charged after Mississauga shooting

Police have charged a 29-year-old Mississauga man in connection with a shooting early Saturday morning.

A 27-year-old man was shot twice in the chest at a highrise on Bloor Street, near Dixie Road, around 3 a.m.

He was transported to a trauma centre in Toronto. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police responded quickly and managed to arrest the suspect as he was trying to escape.

“Officers scoured the area very quickly, and were able to arrest a party [believed to be] responsible for the shooting,” Const. George Tudos said.

Jason Ancheril has been charged with attempted murder, utter death threats, discharging a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm and breach of a weapons prohibition.

He was due in a Brampton court on Saturday for a bail hearing.
