Puck drops on Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour starting in October

A hockey party is coming to a city near you.

The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour will visit 25 communities every weekend throughout the NHL season.

The tour kicks off in London, Ont., on Oct. 11-12.

At each event, there will be free festivities, interactive games, appearances by NHL alumni and local hockey heroes, and more. It will also host outdoor viewing parties on Saturday and Sunday.

Before each Sunday’s featured match-up on City, Ron MacLean will host a 30-minute pre-game show program live on-site from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio, featuring interviews with celebrities, NHL alumni and other special guests.

“It’s a half-hour tee-up to the program, but because it’s an NHL game, it’s actually a three-and-a-half hour broadcast,” MacLean told Breakfast Television on Tuesday.

MacLean, and other Sportsnet personalities, will also make appearances during the intermission and post-game show.

“The passion for hockey in this country is unrivaled. Every Canadian has a connection to the game – it is part of our DNA, it is part of our communities,” said MacLean. “We’re excited to share in this season-long celebration of Canada’s favourite pastime, help grow the game and bring to life those great hockey stories every Sunday.”

The first broadcast will take place on Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET on City before the Toronto Maple Leafs take on New York Rangers.

The broadcasts will culminate with the hockey game each week on City.
